The upcoming renovation of the Science and Engineering Laboratory buildings will include enhanced building wayfinding, new finishes in the public spaces, and the creation of new informal learning spaces. These “Oases” will serve to encourage collaborative work as well as individual, focused study. The project will also address code compliance issues with stairs, elevators, and bathrooms.
Flooring abatement work is scheduled to begin in July 2015 and general construction work will begin in Spring 2016.
The Circle Reading Room opened in the northeast corner of the first floor Feb. 22, the 50th anniversary of what was originally called the Circle Campus. The room’s opening was part of the day-long “Circle Back-UIC Forward” anniversary celebration.
Renovated Lecture Center F includes progressive, state-of-the-art A/V multimedia podiums, new seating, increased surface workspace, adjustable lighting, and sheer drapes to maximize natural light. The design reflects an emphasis on respecting and highlighting the existing architecture of the building.
